CitarDownloaded the app but has yet to put it on the phone...

A couple things Im wondering out loud:
- Head size of Head rackets is measured differently compared to other companies... so what do we do for the headsize input?
- Would soft co-polys not quite fit into the poly category?

Someone with an ERT machine can do some quick tests? Thanks!

is there a co-poly setting? or just a generic poly?

is there a co-poly setting? or just a generic poly?

The setting is just polyester which gives you a generic density for polyester string. I found it to be really accurate with my co-poly stuff. If you want to be sure you have the density correct, it let's you input the exact density of the string if you want to calculate it yourself, which is easy enough to do.

Here's an example using a string I often use myself: Signum-Pro Poly Plasma 1.23mm

Just measured (used a scale at work with a resolution of 0.01g) an 11.6m long piece of that string and got the result 19.00g.

This gives 19.00 g / 11.6 m = 1.6379 g/m (unstretched) or 19.00 g / (11.6*1.04) m = 1.5749 (assuming that string stretches 4% at a normal stringing tension - this has not been measured by me though). And I'm not 100% sure if one should use the stretched or unstretched value for that program or not. :-)

Some comments on whether racquetTune shows the right result. (this is also discussed on the racquetTune Q&A):

- racquetTune needs the density of the strings to convert the frequency (sound) to tension. The build in "calculator" assumes that all polyester and all nylon strings have the same density. This is generally a good estimate, but not always. So if anyone of those who have gotten strange result has chance to weigh their strings it would be interesting.

- The setting of the string machine and the tension in the stringbed are two different things. Even if you are careful and have a calibrated machine there are different factors that both increase and decrease the tension.

That said, I am very interested in getting both positive and negative feedback on how well it works in order to improve the app.

A great help would be if someone who has seen strange results could record the sound of the string and mail me at

I did some measurements using ERT300 and RacquetTune. I tested 8 racquets. Results are in the table and plot below.
Results cannot be considered conclusive because all of my racquet are strung in a pretty narrow range (mid 50lb).
I only had one frame strung at very low tension (35lb) for which the ERT 300 picked up a value of 20 while RacquetTune strangely reported a 67 (that's the outlier on top left). But I guess that's outside a "normal" range of use of this tool.
Another problem I have is the choice of string density because most of my frames are hybrids. I tried to use "reasonable" values but I am not sure if my choices were fine.
As i said for the test to be more reliable I would need racquets strung in the 60lb range. At that point it would be a easier to check the linearity of the correlation.
Correlation coeff using data below is 0.6
By no means I am an expert so please feel free make comments/suggestions.
Cheers.
G.
Edit: Just one note. The only freshly strung frame is R2.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcXvDWI3EwU
