Ahora en semis se viene una final anticipada contra Tsitsipas en mi opinión. Va a tener que andarse con cuidado Felix, porque al griego no le han regalado el nº1 en el ranking. Es un jugador muy completo con un gran revés a una mano, y el único de los 4 semifinalistas que no ha perdido ni un set todavía.

Hoy, en el tercer turno de la Grandstand (aproximadamente sobre las 22, la jornada empieza a las 18h hora española), jugará la final del US Open Junior, ante Miomir Kecmanovic, el cabeza de serie numero 5, y verdugo de Nicola Kuhn.

Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime has done a lot on the tennis court that nobody – not Roger Federer, not Rafael Nadal, not Novak Djokovic or anybody else – has done. At the age of 14, Auger-Aliassime became the youngest player to qualify for a Challenger event, win a match in the main draw of a Challenger and the youngest to break into the Top 800 of the ATP World Tour rankings.

Inevitably, his performance has gotten him plenty of attention. For the last couple of years you could find ESPN analyst Brad Gilbert gushing praise when fans ask him about the teenager, and compatriot Milos Raonic has done the same.

"Inspiring to see what Félix Auger-Aliassime is doing at only 14 years old," Raonic tweeted. "He is going to be fun to follow."

That was last July.

Today, still only 16, Auger-Aliassime has reached as high as the professional Top 600, No. 2 in the junior rankings and come within a point of winning a junior Grand Slam at Roland Garros this year, when he was 15. But while the youngster appreciates the attention, he has not needed it to push himself further.

"I know what they think about me and everything, but I put already a lot of pressure on myself, so I don't really want to look around at other people who are thinking about me," Auger-Aliassime said. "Obviously, I want to do great and it's good that people like this, they see what I'm doing, but I really want to play for me and I don't put that extra pressure on myself."

Auger-Aliassime's breakthroughs at the Challengers came in 2015, but he tried his hand at the professional level once again this year, playing 10 tournaments of various levels, especially over the summer.

"I mean you kind of want to show yourself that it wasn't just luck and that you're able to play at this level and be constant at this level," said Auger-Aliassime. "I put a lot of pressure on myself, maybe too much sometimes. I really wanted to do well and I kind of didn't play the way I wanted this summer in this Challengers level. But at least I know that I've done it before."

Arguably the toughest part is that playing "up," Auger-Aliassime plays tougher competition against which he naturally will not win as often as he would against players his age. He said that those losses, while beneficial in learning, left him not as confident as he'd like to be heading into this US Open.

"It was tough for me," Auger-Aliassime said. "I mean you play these Challengers and sometimes it's not really realistic, because you play a lot of tough opponents. I mean I've played some guys that have been Top 100 and I've played one of the best Canadian players, so sometimes I lose and I don't play the way that I want."

Auger-Aliassime did play a junior tournament in Canada last week to get some match play in before the year's final Grand Slam, and he has played well on the way to the semifinals, where the No. 6 seed will play top-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas.

"I grew a lot in the last one year and of course I had some good results at the pro level too so I know that I'm able to compete with the older guys and the guys that have more experience," Auger-Aliassime said. "He's a great opponent. We've played twice. I won both times, but I think things have changed since. Obviously he's been playing at his best level in the last year. You see him winning a few Futures titles this year, winning matches in Challengers. He's been playing great."

Parecéis olvidar todos los grandes juniors que ni siquiera llegaron a profesionales...

Kyrgios fue número 1 junior pero tampoco recuerdo que arrasase a lo grande. Además, sus mejores resultados los hizo en su último año junior. Aliassime se está saliendo en su último año cadete; no tiene nada que ver.

Tampoco hay que lanzar las campanas al vuelo. Monfils ganó 3 Grand Slams juniors y ahora con 30 años sus mejores resultados son 2 semifinales de Grand Slam y 6 títulos ATP.
